104 Morphological Characteristics and Essential Oil Percent of Different Achillea Species under Two Irrigation Regimes Mehdi Akbari Samani Mehdiakbari930@yahoo com January 12 2015 Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 8111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi J Razmjoo E mail krazmjoo@cc iut ac ir M Rahimmalek E mail mrahimmalek@cc iut ac ir Abstract Yarrow Achillea sp is one of the most important medicinal and ornamental plants Therefore selection of genotypes for their ornamental and medicinal values is important under non stress and drought stress conditions This study was conducted to determine the effects of irrigation regimes on morphological physiological traits and essential percent of yarrow genotypes Twelve genotypes from six species were used in this research including A millefolium Hamedan Kandovan Lithuania England Urmia A filipendulina America and Ardebil A santolina Chahar Mahal Bakhtiari A nobilis Shandiz A aucheri Alborz and A pachycephalla Hamedan and Golestan They were evaluated under two irrigation regimes 70 and 140 mm evaporation from class A The study was conducted according to combined analysis based on a randomized complete block design with three replicates Deficit irrigation reduced plant height plant cover flower diameter flowering duration while increased proline and essential oil contents Highest plant height plant cover flower diameter flowering duration proline chlorophyll and essential oil contents was measured in Lithuania Hamedan and Golestan Kandovan Shahrekord California England and Lithuania genotypes while the lowest plant height plant cover flower diameter flowering duration proline chlorophyll and essential oil contents was measured in Shahrekord Shahrekord Alborz Urmia Hamedan Kandovan and Alborz genotypes under normal irrigation respectively Highest plant height plant cover flower diameter flowering duration proline chlorophyll and essential oil contents was measured in Lithuania Hamedan and Golestan England Shahrekord California England and Shandiz genotypes whereas the lowest plant height plant cover flower diameter flowering duration proline chlorophyll and essential oil contents was measured in Shahrekord shandiz Alborz Urmia Hamedan Kandovan and Hamedan genotypes under deficit irrigation respectively The results showed that the measured traits were highly affected by genotype So irrigation regime and selection of genotypes is possible for desire traits under normal and deficit irrigation California and Ardebil were considered as preferred genotypes for ornamental use and Lithuania was desirable for essential production under normal condition whereas England Shahrekord and Alborze were superior genotypes for ornamental use and California and Shandiz were better genotypes for essential oil production under deficit irrigation Keywords Deficit irrigation Essential oil Percent Ornamental plants Yarrow
