Design and fabrication of 3D porous scaffold of nanofibers by using electrospinning of bicomponent Polycaprolactone and Gelatin for bone tissue engineering Seyyed Amin Reza Safavi a safavi@tx iut ac ir Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 8415683111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Dr Dariush Semnani d semnani@cc iut ac irAbstractVarious kinds of artificial prosthesis have been used to repair the bone damages when thebone structure and tissue can not be regenerated and repaired themselves The artificialprosthesis makes movement difficulties and inflammation for the patients Tissue engineeringmethods have been experienced to regenerate bone tissue by nano fibrous scaffolds andimplant it to the damaged member Previous attempts have been limited by problems ininfiltration of bone cells into the scaffold In the present research scaffolds for bone tissueengineering have been fabricated by bicomponent electrospinning of PCL and Gelatinnanofibers and the Gelatin nanofibers were dissolved in distilled water and eliminated fromscaffold to manufacture an ultra porous scaffold with pore size many times more than bonecell size The results of porosity estimation by both methods of density measurement andimage processing of SEM images presented that generated pore size on scaffolds are verysuitable for cell infiltration Also nanofibers diameter sizes and distributions are very suitablewhile the strengths of scaffolds are acceptable for bone tissue engineering Keywords Tissue engineering Bicomponent electrospinning Scaffold Poly caprolactonenanofibers Gelatin nanofibers
