On Bending Problems of Laminated Composite Plates Using Exponential Basis Functions in Meshless Local Form Ali Reza Motamedi alirezamoatamedi@yahoo com Date of Submission June 7 2015 Department of Civil Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Dr Bijan Boroomand boromand@cc iut ac ir Advisor Dr Mojtaba Azhari mojtaba@cc iut ac ir Abstract In this dissertation the bending behavior of moderately thick laminated composite and single layerisotropic plates with different geometries and boundary conditions based on the classical laminated platetheory CLPT the first order shear deformation theory FSDT and the third order shear deformation theory TSDT is investigated For this purpose three local meshless methods are used In these methods theprocedure of solution begins with discretization of the solution domain by a set of nodal point A cloud consisting of a set of adjacent node is constructed at each of these nodes Solution of the differential equationin each cloud is split into homogeneous and particular parts Each of these parts is constructed as a series ofexponential basis functions EBFs Basis functions of the homogeneous solution are found such that thehomogeneous differential equation is exactly satisfied Suitable selection of these functions plays animportant role in reaching appropriate accuracy in the final results In the present research these basisfunctions are selected such that the sampling theorems conditions are satisfied Most of the meshless methods consist of two main parts use of appropriate interpolation functions and the formulation employed for satisfaction of the governing equations The meshless methods use exponentialbasis functions however the formulation of each method is different from the others These methods neitherneed numerical integration nor need mesh of element These features lead to speed up of the calculations another advantage of these methods is their ability to solve problems with internal borders To demonstrate the accuracy and the efficiency of the methods used in this thesis the solution of variousproblems such as isotropic and laminated composite plates with different shapes and boundary conditions has been presented The numerical results of these analyses have been compared with those of the exactsolutions if available for each theory used The results have been also compared with those found by otherresearches and those obtained from 2D and 3D finite element analysis Key words Laminated composite plates Meshless method Exponential basis functions Classical andshear deformation theory
