A Study on Practical Frameworks for Secure Multi Party Computations with Focus on Performance Evaluation of Privacy Preserving Applications Mostafa Shafiei mostafa shafiei@ec iut ac ir Date of Submission 2015 29 07 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran 84156 83111 Degree Master of Science Language Persian Supervisor Dr Mahdi Berenjkoub brnjkb@cc iut ac ir Advisor Dr Mohammad Dakhil Alian mdalian@cc iut ac ir Abstract Recently preserving the privacy has attracted significant attention among weathersocieties goverments and lawmakers Anything that a person freely decides not to reveal iscommonly considered as a part of his privacy Privacy preserving is necessary for usingmany network based and other applications Addressing this challenge and adding privacyentails many benefits Secure multiparty computation a branch in cryptography is a solutionfor this problem The idea was born in the 1980s and most of related studies has been directedto meet the theoretical challenges One of these studies is to provide software frameworks allowing researchers to implement the idea of secure multiparty computation In this thesisfour frameworks of this category have been studied and two of them have been improved Specifically by changing the procedure of secret sharing security and flexiblity of oneframework is improved How to share the secrets have a direct impact on other componentsof the framework Accordingly the necessary changes in the addition and multiplicationprotocols the basic protocols of such frameworks has been applied For this purpose amodified version of a previously proposed multiplication protocol is suggested In allframeworks introduced in this thesis multiplication protocol is one of the main bottlenecksboth in terms of the computaions and communication In this regard for one of theframeworks a new protocol is suggested to replace the original multiplication protocol inorder to reduce the amount of required computation for each party Moreover using anoptimized verifiable secret sharing scheme security against a static active enemy is addedto multiplication and additon protocols Since the multiplication protocol is a basis for otherprotocols the security of the whole framework can be improved against the static activeenemy Keywords Secure Multiparty Computation Secure Protocols Cryptography
