54Esterification of acrylic acid catalyzed by ionic liquid and the synthesis of polycarboxylate graphene oxide nanocomposites by solution method Ali Kochaki a kochaki@ch iut ac ir Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 I R Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Dr A Abdolmaleki Email abdolmaleki@cc iut ac ir amirabdolmaleki@yahoo com Abstract The ionic liquids due to their remarkable properties such as nonflammable highthermal negligible vapor pressure low toxicity and their simple reusability have been widely used as solventor catalyst in esterification reactions In the first part of this work four acidic ionic liquids were prepared andcharacterized by 1H NMR and FT IR spectra They were used as solvent and catalysts for esterificationreactions of acrylic acid and ethanol The experimental results were followed by gas chromatography GC MNP H HSO4 shows the best catalytic activity in esterification reaction In the next part of the project polyacrylate graphene oxide PA GO nanocomposites were synthesized with different amount of GO 1 3 and 5 The nanocomposites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy FT IR X ray diffraction analysis XRD field emission scanning electron microscopy FE SEM and Transmitionelectron microscopy TEM XRD pattern of prepared nanocomposite exhibit a peak shift to lower 2 Thementioned shift illustrates that GO layer distance increase compare to GO Mechanical and thermalproperties of synthesized nanocomposites were investigated by strain stress analysis and thermo gravimetricanalysis TGA respectively Based on strain stress analysis it seems that PA GO 1 has a lowercrosslinked density compared to PA GO 3 and 5 According to the TGA analysis PA GO 1 showshigher char yield compare to neat polymer In contrast PA GO 3 and 5 shows more degradation relativeto pure polymer Keyword Ionic liquids acrylic acid polycarboxylate nanocomposite graphene oxide
