74 Preparation and Characterization of Novel Electrocatalyst Based on Star Polybenzimidazole MoS2 Hybrids and Layered Doubled Hydroxide N Doped Graphene Oxide Hybrids for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Afshin Nabiyan Afshin na@hotmail com Afshin Nabiyan chem@gmail com December 2015Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 I R Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Dr M Dinari Email mdinary@gmail com dinari@cc iut ac irAdvisor Prof Ali A Ensafi Email Ensafi@cc iut ac ir aaensafi@gmail comDepartment Graduate Program Coordinator Dr Ali Reza Najafi Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Tel 98 31 33912369 Fax 98 31 33912350Abstract In the first of this research the hybrids of MoS2 and star polybenzimidazole PBI are fabricatedbased on triazine cycles The nano hybrid structure and composite are utilized as substrate to hydrogenevolution reaction HER To fallowing attempt to elimination of platinum from HER the MoS2 sheetsare decorated with star PBI Then the nano catalysts are characterized with different methods such asthermo gravimetry transmission electron microscopy field emission scanning electron microscopy andX ray diffraction techniques Electrochemical studies shade light open the fact that the onset potentialis only 160 mV vs RHE with a small Tafel slope of 50 6 mV dec 1 for HER Consequently these novelhybrids are comparable with Pt and Pt composite in HER In the second part of this thesis the graphene oxide was synthesized based of reported methodsand it was characterized with different techniques Then the surface of the graphene oxide was dopedwith nitrogen by used of ammonium hydroxide In addition both surface of the graphene oxide andnitrogen doped graphene oxide GO and NGO are decorated with lanthanum nickel layered doubledhydroxide LDH Then one novel strategy was designed and developed for fabricated of goldnanoparticels by galvanic exchange of nickel s LDH sheets However in this section the La Ni LDHsheets and Au nanoparticels are fabricated on reduce GO and reduce NGO as novel strategy forelimination of Pt from electrocatalyst in water splitting The electrochemical characterizations revealthe fact that the onset potential of only 80 mV vs RHE and current exchange density 10 mA cm 2with a small Tafel slope of 60 mV dec 1 for HER The synthetic extraordinary electrocatalysts arecomparable or better than different platinum compounds and transition metal sulfides in several aspects Key words Star polybenzimidazole MoS2 Nitrogen doped graphene oxide Lanthanum nickel layereddoubled hydroxide and Hydrogen evolution reaction
