On the Bayesian estimation of the weighted Lindley distribution irouzeh Khayyamim F f khayyamim@math iut ac ir 2016 Department of Mathematical Sciences Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Supervisor Dr Zahra Saberi z saberi@cc iut ac ir Advisor Dr Sareh Goli s goli@cc iut ac ir 2010 MSC 62F15 62C10 62N05 65C60 62F10 Keywords Weighted Lindley distribution Loss functions Posterior risk Failure rate function mean residual life function Monte Carlo method Abstract The weighted distributions take into account the technique of ascertainment by adjusting theprobabilities of actual happening of events to arrive at the speci cation of the probabilities of thoseevents as observed and recorded Failure to make such adjustments can go ahead into erroneousconclusions The weighted distributions provide a comprehensive understanding by adding exibilityin the existing standard distributions In this Thesis we considered the weighted Lindley distribution WLD which belongs to the class of the weighted distributions and investigated various its properties The weighted Lindley distribution is generalization of the existing Lindley distribution Also thedistribution can be represented as a mixture of gamma distributions The following the di erent reliability characteristics including reliability function hazard function and mean residual life function are also analysed Also we present the structural shape propertiesof the density and of the hazard rate function of the WLD The probability density function of theweighted Lindley distribution is decreasing or unimodal or decreasing increasing decreasing modeladds an extra shape which can be useful for modeling bimodal data Also The hazard rate functionof the WLD is bathtub shaped or increasing The bathtub feature of the hazard rate function of WLDis particularly useful in modeling biological data from mortality studies For statistical analysis The maximum likelihood estimates of the unknown parameters cannot beobtained in the closed form So the view of Bayesian estimation parameters WLD and reliability
