72 Synthesis and characterization of polyethyleneimine morphine codeine and oxycodone TiO2 nanocomposites investigation of the controlled drug releasing properties and study of the electrochemical behavior of tungstendisulfide nanosilica particle as a source for hydrogen evolution reaction Fariba Ghadirian Email fariba ghadirian @ch iut ac ir Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Professor Ali A Ensafi Email Ensafi@cc iut ac irAbstract In the first section of this work the investigation of controlled drug release ofbiocompatible and biodegradable polyethyleneimine titanium dioxide nanocomposite wasused to deliver drugs The nanocomposite was synthesized with simple and effectivemethod of chemical co precipitation then analgesics morphine codeine and oxycodonewere loaded on it The structure and morphology of nanocomposites were characterizedwith techniques such as FT IR FE SEM and TGA and electrochemical methods Decreasing the oxidation signals of the drugs were used as probes to study controlled drugreleasing using differential pulse voltammetry In order to simulate the in vivo drug release the investigations were carried out in acidicand neutral environments up to 24 h Finally different factors affecting the release of thedrugs such as the amount of drug loading the percentage of the polymer and titaniumdioxide to cover these nanocomposites were studied The results of the electrochemicalstudies showed that 40 of polyethyleneimine 50 TiO2 and 10 of drug have bettercontrolled releasing ability In the second section of this study an efficient electrocatalyst has been developedfor hydrogen evolution based on tungsten disulfide WS2 catalyst In order to improve thecatalytic properties of WS2 nano silica was used as the substrate and hydrofluoric acid wasused to prepare porous catalyst structure One advantage of this method is reducing theamounts of noble metal usage and synthesis of inexpensive and efficient catalyst forhydrogen evolution The electrochemical properties of the catalyst have been investigatedin 0 5 mol L 1 H2SO4 solution by polarization measurement and electrochemical impedancespectroscopy The catalyst exhibits high catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution with alow overpotential a high current density and long term stability Keywords Controlled drug releasing Polyethyleneimine Titaniumdioxide Tungstendisulfide Nanosilica
