75 The location of organ transplant centers on the network under uncertaintyAuthor Mostafa RezaeeSupervisor Ali Shahande Nookabadi ali nook@cc iut ac irAdvisor M Reisi Nafchi reisi m@cc iut ac irDepartmen of Industrial Engineering and SystemsDate of Submission 10 8 2016Abstract Organ transplantation is one of the fundamental and effective treatment techniquesfor the patients who have critical health problems There exists a huge gap between thenumbers of donors and patients waiting for an organ This is a worldwide problem In theUSA Each day an average of 79 people receive organ transplants However an average of22 people die each day waiting for transplants that can t take place because of the shortageof donated organs This research presents a mixed integer linear programming MILP model to copewith the supply chain network design SCND of the organ transplant The model consistsof a bi objective mathematical programming model that minimizes total cost and time Because of the imprecise nature of the studied network the model has been consideredunder uncertainty For this reason a novel robust possibilistic approach has been appliedand compared to the deterministic model For larger problems proposed a meta heuristicsbased algorithm Besides several sensitivity analyses were conducted to validate theeffectiveness and efficiency of the proposed model and managerial insights wereprovided KEYWORDS supply chain transplant center location allocation uncertainty robust possibilisticprogramming approach large neighborhood search
