105Investigation into the influence of Water Chemistry on Bioleaching of Copper Cobalt and Nickel from the Sulphidic Tailing of Golgohar Iron Mine Iran Sayed mohammad Sadeghiyeh m sadeghiyeh@mi iut ac ir Date of Submission Department of Mining Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors Ali Ahmadi a ahmadi@cc iut ac irCounselor Mohammad Raoof Hosseini mrhosseini@cc iut ac irAbstractRecovery of low grade sulphide ores particullary mine tailings attained much attention by increasing demande andprice of basic metals including Copper Cobalt and Nickel in recent decades Among Hydrometallurgicalprocesses ioleaching was considered as an efficient process due to some advantages such as low capital cost co B Efriendly and more selectivity This research aimed to study the effect of chemical characteristics of water includingpH culture medium type microorganism type and sodium chloride concentration as well as pulp density on therecovery of copper cobalt and nickel in the presence of mixed culture contained Iron and Sulphur oxidizingmicroorganisms from sulphide tailing of Golgohar sirjan In this research mesophile and moderate thermophilemicroorganisms were used at 35 C and 45 C respectively In order to understand the process mechnisms and theeffect of parameters the effect of mentioned critical factors on the electrochemical behavior of sulphide tailing wasstudied under conditions close to bioleaching medium ioleaching experiments were conducted in pH 1 2 1 5 and B1 8 pulp density 5 and 10 w v Norris nd 9K culture medium Sodium Chloride concentration of 0 5 and 10 agr l and in the presence of local ater and obtained water from flotation circuit of pyrite The bioleaching results windicated that maximum relative recovery 90 5 the weighted average of Copper Cobalt and Nickel versus price was achieved in pH 1 8 Sodium Chloride concentration of 10 gr l pulp density 0 Norris culture medium and in 1the presence of moderate thermophile microorganisms so that Copper Cobalt and Nickel recoveries were obtained66 2 87 5 and 87 respectively On the other hand aximum Iron concentration in the solution was 9880 ppm mwhich was obtained under coditions of Norris culture medium Sodium Chloride concentration of 5 r l pH 1 5 and gin the presence of moderate thermophile microoganisms The results presented that increasing pH from to 1 5 1increased metal recoveries while increasing pH from 1 5 to 2 5 decreased t Also increasing Sodium chloride iconcentration increased the dissolution rate which is reduced after 10 days because of Jarosite sediment formationonthe mineral surface Metal recovery increased from 83 3 to 85 5 in the presence of local water whilst in thepresence of flotation circuit water it decreased from 83 3 to 55 5 which is maybe attributed to depressant effectsof foltaion reagents The results also demonstrated that increasing in pulp density from 5 W V to 10 decreasednormalized recovery from 87 9 to 65 which is resulted due to increasing in the shear force Also it was found thatculture medium type has not significant effect on the metal recovery However with regard to economical factors less concentration it is proposed to use Norris culture medium Keywords sulpfide taillings Bioleaching Electrochemical analysis water chemistry Copper Cobalt Nickel
