۶ 29 Mukhopadhyay A Relative Performance of Lockstitch and Chainstitch at the Seat Seam of Military Trouser Journal of Engineered Fibers and Fabrics Vol 3 No 1 pp 21 24 2008 Abstract Viscoelastic properties in textiles lead to time dependent behavior such as creep Many applications of technical textiles such as parachutes tents balloons incomat escape chutes inflatable boats air bags and filters are subjected to constant loading conditions The seam is especially useful in such textiles which affects the fabric time dependent behavior because of stress concentration in seam area Therefore only analyzing viscoelastic behavior of fabric in a seamed structure is not enough and it is necessary to analyze the viscoelastic behavior of sewn seamed fabric Hence considering the effect of different seam characteristics such as type of sewing thread type of seam stitch and etc is important The aim of this research is therefore to study the creep behavior of seamed fabrics with different seam characteristics using eleven experiments by means of experimental design Variables are three types of seams SS LS and BS two types of stitches 301 lockstitch and 401 chain stitch three levels of stitch density 4 8 and 12 stitch per inch SPI as well as three kinds of sewing thread including polyester cotton polyester and metallic thread that sewn with three levels of sewing thread tension low medium and high The samples were tested under constant load then creep compliance was calculated for all samples In addition constants of viscoelastic model were calculated for each sample by using successive residual method The results indicate the possibility of describing viscoelastic behavior of seamed fabric by using Burgers model a subset of the generalized model In the following instantaneous strain viscose strain and retarded strain in samples were analyzed The results show that instantaneous elastic behavior in viscoelastic materials is highly dependent on the seam characteristics Changing the sewing
