74 The effect of different starting materials calcinationtemperature and Substituation of Ce for Ca on the properties of BSCCO superconductors Mohsen Shamsodini m shamsodini@ph iut ac ir Date of Submission 2016 10 24 Department of Physics Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor H Salamati Salamati@cc iut acAbstractThis thesis consists of two parts In the first part The effect of calcination temperature anddifferent type of materials nitrates and oxcides on the properties of Bi 2223superconductors have been investigated and in the second part Substituation of Ce for Cain Bi 2223 superconductor In first part Bi1 66 Pb0 34 Sr2 Ca2 Cu3 Ox superconductor powder hasbeen prepared via sol gel method with different type of materials nitrates and oxcides andthe effect of calcination temperature have been investigated The XRD and SEM analysisand the result of the electrical resistivity and AC susceptibility measurement show that forsamples prepared with nitrates and calcinated in 790 c the flux pinning force in the grainboundaries phase formation of Bi 2223 electrical resistivity and critical current density arebetter than the samples prepared with carbonates and calcinated in 750 c in second part toinvestigate the effect of the partial substitution of Ca by Ce Samples with nominalcomposition Bi1 64 Pb0 36 Sr2 Ca2 x Cex Cu3 O y x 0 0 0 2 0 4 0 6 have been prepared by Solid State reaction method The result of the AC suscebtibility measurement and electricalresistivity don t show any transition to superconductivity state After studying the reasonsfor these observations we found that Ce element has a bad effect on the properties of Bi 2223 superconductors because the amount of the substitution of Ca by Ce is high Keywords Substitution of Ca by Ce Bi 2223 superconductor nitrates and carbonates SolGel calcination
