Object Locating in Anisotropic Background Using MUSIC Algorithm Faezeh Shirmehenji f shirmehenji@ec iut ac ir January 7 2017 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisors Assoc Prof Abolghasem Zeidaabadi Nezhad zeidabad@cc iut ac ir Assist Prof Zaker Hossein Firouzeh zhfirouzeh@cc iut ac ir Abstract In recent years many works have devoted to the field of inverse scattering Some algorithms have been developed todetect objects under the ground objects behind or inside walls and meteorological and medical applications An inversescattering problem is to illuminate an object by electromagnetic waves then the scattered fields it are measured to obtainits location and also its geometrical and physical properties However usually non linear nature and ill posedness of theproblem cause severe restrictions These two properties are due to multipath scattering or lack of a real answer Availablemethods for solving inverse scattering problems are divided into two categories quantitative and qualitative methods Quan titative methods yield more information such as object shape location and properties but these methods are time consumingand also require more preliminary information On the other hand qualitative methods which give only location and shapeof the objects need less initial information leading to fast calculation To achieve the best results the combination of thesetwo methods are employed First the qualitative methods are used to find the shape and location of the object then theseinformation are used for the quantitative methods to obtain physical properties of the object In this thesis the qualitative method of MUltiple SIgnal Classification MUSIC algorithm is employed to locate 2D or 3Dobjects in free space anisotropic dielectric and or magnetic background First the formulation is presented to solve theinverse scattering problem Then accuracy and efficiency of the proposed approach are illustrated in some examples usingMUSIC algorithm with MATLAB Key Words Quantitative Methods Qualitative Methods MUltiple SIgnal Classification MUSIC Algorithm Dielectric and Magnetic Anisotropic Background
