96 The Study of Using Waste Ceramic and Steel Chips in Concrete Under The Effect of Temperature Zahra Keshavarz z keshavarz@cv iut ac ir Date of Submission September 18 2017 Department of Civil Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors Dr Davood Mostofinejad dmostofi@cc iut ac ir AbstractToday with the advance of civil engineering science and the possibility of designing safe structures the use ofconcrete in the construction of structures due to its features has been considered more and more Therefore the effort to improve the physical and chemical properties of this material is very important On the other hand due to the widespread industry a number of waste products of factories have increased day by day For thisreason today attempts to reuse these lesions have been considered One of the ways to prevent the accumulationof some waste products is using them in useful materials such as concrete In researches done so far the use ofceramic waste in concrete has been very much considered Because this material if used as an alternative toaggregates increases the strength of the concrete made from it compared to conventional concrete and inaccordance with the ceramic materials it also resists heat Ceramics have different types The researches thathave been done so far suggests that the use of sanitary ceramics more than other types of ceramics improvesconcrete properties The new generation of ceramics is a porcelain ceramic that has a high resistance to heatand pressure and due to its high resistance does not have the ability to return to the production cycle of thefactories and generally accumulate as waste products In this research two porcelain ceramics and ordinary redceramics in concrete were used as a substitute for coarse aggregates in percentages of 25 50 75 and 100 Theresults also showed that these ceramics also have better performance than sanitary ceramics In studies thathave been done by researchers the use of waste steels materials is also considered as one of the most usefulmaterials that can improve concrete properties So far these waste steels have been used mainly as aggregatesin concrete In this study steel chips of 1 1 25 and 1 5 of concrete volume were used alone and withceramic in concrete At first 452 samples were made to perform tests of compressive strength tensile strength durability water absorption and concrete strength against heat The results showed that these chips andceramics have been able to increase the compressive strength tensile strength flexural strength and durabilityof concrete alone and their combined use in concrete in addition to improving the resistance parameters ofconcrete at normal temperature increases its acceptable resistance in front heat In general it can be said thatin this study with use of waste materials the quality and characteristics of concrete increased significantly ata negligible cost Key wordsConcrete porcelain ceramics sanitary ceramics steel chips temperature toughness water absorption compressive strength tensile strength modulus of rupture
