AbstractThe time of flight mass spectrometry is an efficient techniques for the identification andcharacterization of chemical compounds In this technique the ions produced via the interactionof the laser radiation with sample are accelerated in an electric field After obtaining enoughkinetic energy the ions enter in a field free region and are separated based on their mass chargeratio and reach to the detector at different times In this thesis the time of flight mass spectra ofseveral Schiff base and inorganic complexes containing central atoms such as Fe Co Ni Cuand V were recorded using the laser desorption ionization technique on the aluminum and itsanodized surface separately and the ionic species of each compound were determined Theemployed laser light was in the infrared region with the wavelength of 1064 nm The massspectra recorded in this work were simpler compared to the mass spectra of the other complexesrecorded by Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization MALDI technique reported inliterature so that that the determination of the molecular weights of some complexes werepossible The effect of the structure of complex on its stability against the laser radiation wasalso investigated in this work and it was found that the presence of one substitution on the ligandof complex change the stability of complex considerably Keywords Time of flight mass spectrometry Laser desorption ionization Schiff basecomplexes Inorganic complexes
