Fabrication of optical sensor based on molecularly imprinted polymers and new green synthesized carbon dots from Cedrus plant for detection of propranolol and phenobarbital Rana Shariati Email raanashariati@yahoo com 2017 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Prof Behzad Rezaei Email address Rezaei@cc iut ac irAdvisor Prof Ali A Ensafi Email address Ensafi@cc iut ac irAbstractIn this thesis a sensitive and new optical sensor using a molecularly imprinted polymerslayer coated on anew green carbon dots for selective determination low levels ofpropranolol was developed In the first step green CDs for the first time from Cedrus plantwere synthesized by the hydrothermal method At the next step by reverse microemulsiontechnique a thin film of silica on the surface of CDs were maked At last molecularlyimprinted polymer embedded CDs MIPs CDs were obtained At last propranolol wasremoved from the MIPs CDs of nanocomposite by mixed ethanol and acetonitrile solvents and finally the nanocomposite was used to measure propranolol Under optimalconditions the response of the nanocomposite to propranolol the linear range was 0 08 6 50 nmol L 1 and detection limit was 0 02 nmol L 1 This sensor was used to measurepropranolol in human blood plasma samples The results confirmed the sensor hasadvantages such as rapid response sensitivity and high selectivity cost effectiveness andthe lack of large volumes of organic solvents for measuring propranolol In the secondreswrch work to measure phenobarbital the MIPs CDs nanocomposites was used asoriginally prepared After optimizing the effective factors of the sensor response the linearrange was obtained from 0 04 to 3 45 nmol L 1 and detection limit was 0 01 nmol L 1 Thissensor was used to measure phenobarbital in a human blood plasma samples Keywords Optical sensor Molecularly imprinted polymers Green carbon dots Hydrothermal Reverse Microemulsion Propranolol Phenobarbital
