Design and Implementation of UFMC Multicarrier Modulator for 5G Mobile Network Yousef Geramian nejhad u gerameian@ec iut ac ir Date of Submission 2018 01 10 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Mohammad Javad Omidi omidi@cc iut ac irAbstract One of the most commonly used methods in wireless telecommunication systems is the use ofmulticarrier modulation In the fourth generation of the mobile network multicarrier OFDM modulation hasbeen used OFDM modulation has several advantages such as good resistance to multipath fading and fastfading Given the fact that fifth generation of mobile network requires other applications and capabilities thenecessity of using more efficient modulation and adapting to needs of fifth generation of mobile network israised The choice of modulation for the fifth generation of physical layer of the mobile network is veryimportant and so far much research has been done on it For the fifth generation of mobile network OFDM F OFDM FBMC GFDM UFMC and other modulations are proposed and still not specified in the standardmodulation type Among the modulations of the fifth generation UFMC modulation has many positive features andbenfits A remarkable point in relation to all the modulations of the fifth generation and in particular UFMCmodulation is that no extensive studies have been conducted in the field of electronics implementation Themain goal of this thesis is to provide high level structure and architecture for the implementation of UFMCmodulation and in general the presentation of the implementation process of telecommunication systems TheUFMC modulator divides the data into a number of subbands and then the output of each subband is filteredusing bandpass filter In fact by using information splitting and using the bandpass for each subband the outof band components are significantly reduced One of the main blocks in the high level architecture of theUFMC transmitter is the bandpass filters of each subband Given that the bandpass filters must be shifted tocenter of each subband their coefficients are complex and since that the output of the IFFT block is alsocomplex it is necessary to perform complex convolution operations with the bandpass filter In this thesisdifferent structures are proposed for implementing bandpass filter with complex coefficients The coefficientsof the filters have been fixed point with the appropriate word length and finally after implementing each ofthe proposed structures with VHDL they are compared in hardware resource and operating frequency Thenthrough the proposed structures for complex bandpass filter four structures with better performance wereselected and with the IFFT block the UFMC modulator is designed and implemented with VHDL hardwaredescription Proposed structures for UFMC modulator are compared in hardware resources consumed andoperating frequency and the results are presented Finally UFMC modulator implementation has beenevaluated for the correct performance Keywords 5G mobile network UFMC high level architecture multicarriermodulation
