Preparation and evaluation of hydrogen electrode based on nickel nanoparticles and its alloys on the geraphene NiCo rGO and NiFeCo rGO in water electrolysis Javad Rezaei Javadrezaei0700@gmail com 2018 Department of chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Dr Mohammad Zhiani mohammad zhiani@gmail com Abstract Water electrolysis is one of the best methods for high purity Hydrogen and Oxygen production Nomerous studies have been devoted on the investigation of HER catalystsimprovment Using non precious and durable electrocatalysts with low overpotential and highactivity instead of noble metals is one of the most investigated subjects In this project nickelnano particles and its alloys NiCo and NiFeCo have been grown on the reduced grapheneoxide support and deposited on Ni foam substrate to employ as HER catalyst The structuresof these catalysts were investigated by various techniques such as FT IR EDS Raman XRD SEM and TEM These thechniques showed that applied method for synthesis of a porous andhomogeneous elctrocatalaysts was successful To evaluate the electrochemical behavior ofthese nano catalysts various techniques such as cyclic voltammetry linear sweepvoltammetry were apllied The electrocatalitic activity of Ni rGO NiCo rGO andNiCoFe rGo were improved after 500 CV cycles Observed onset overpotential of NiCo rGOand NiCoFe rGO would be 57 mV and 55 mV respectively NiCo rGo show high exchangecurrent density 0 295 mA cm 2 Finally to study the performance of these nano particlesunder real conditions an alkaline electrolysis cell was used NiCo rGO and NiCoFe rGOexhibited the cell voltage 1 8 and 1 9 V respectively at the current density of 200 mA cm 2 January of 2018
