131 Synthesis characterization of asymmeetric tetradentate Schiff baseligands and their complexes with metals Ni II Cu II Zn II Pd II Co II and Vanadyl investigation of catalytic and biological activities of some of the complexes Maryam Sedighipour m sedighipour@ch iut ac ir Date of Submission 1396 10 24 Department of chemistry Isfahan University of Technology 84156 83111 Isfahan Iran Supervisor Dr Ali Hossien Kianfar akianfar@cc iut ac ir Advisor Dr Shadpour Mallakpour mallak@cc iut ac irAbstractIn the first section of this thesis two new tetradentate Schiff base ligands and their complexes weresynthesized and characterized by FT IR UV Vis and 1H NMR techniques The crystal structure of thecomplexes were determined by the single crystal X ray analysis In the next step spectroscopic methodshave been used to study the interactions between the synthesized Schiff base complexes and Calf ThymusDNA CT DNA and Bovine Serum Albumin BSA UV Vis absorption fluorescence and circulardichroism CD spectroscopy and thermal denaturation measurements were used in the investigation of DNAbinding properties of these complexes These complexes can bind to Calf Thymus DNA CT DNA via anintercalative mode Also these complexes had a significant interaction with Bovine Serum Albumin BSA and the results demonstrated that the quenching mechanism was a static procedure Finally the theoreticalstudies by docking method were performed to calculate the binding constants and recognize the binding siteof the BSA and DNA by the complexes Furthermore the cytotoxicity of complexes NiL2 and VOL2 wasdetermined by MTT dye reduction method in comparison to cisplatin The catalytic activity of VOL1 complex was investigated in the epoxidation of different alkenes These catalysts showed high reactivity inepoxidation of alkenes such as cyclohexene styrene norbornene 1 octene and indene In the last part of thethesis the catalytic activity of the PdL1 and PdL2 complexes for the Suzuki coupling reaction was studiedand showed very paromising result Kay word Schiff base ligands Schiff base complexes DNA BSA alkene epoxidation Suzuki
