Removal of Methylene blue dye from aqueous solution by a Dapsone covalent organic polymer Raf at Sadat Rafiee Pour r rafieepour@gmail com Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Prof Mohammad Saraji saraji@cc iut ac irAbstract Discharges of toxic dye wastewater have harmful effects and irreparable damage to water resources soil living organisms and ecosystems Methylene blue which is one of the most widely used dyes in theindustry is due to the presence of benzene rings in its chemical structure resistant to biodegradation and ispersistent in nature Therefore removal of methylene blue from wastewater as one of the most importantenvironmental pollutants is very important Among the available techniques for purification of dyes simpleand inexpensive adsorption techniques are one of the most effective methods for removing dye fromwastewater In this study the effectiveness of a Dapsone covalent organic polymer in the adsorption ofmethylene blue from aqueous solutions was investigated The effective factors in achieving optimaladsorption including pH and contact time as well as the effect of amount of adsorbent and differenttemperature conditions on adsorption process were investigated The UV Visible spectrometer was used tomeasure the dye adsorption At room temperature and the contact time of 15 minutes the maximumadsorption capacity was 1668 mg g The dye adsorption behavior was evaluated with Langmuir Freundlich Temkin and Dubinin Radushkevich isotherms and it was observed that the adsorption process was moreconsistent with Langmuir isotherm model R2 0 995 Investigation of adsorption kinetics with pseudo firstorder pseudo second order and intra particle diffusion equations showed that the pseudo second orderkinetic model R2 0 999 is more in line with the results of this study Also the accuracy of the method wasin the range of 0 5 3 0 relative standard deviation Keywords dye removal Daps COP adsorption methylene blue adsorption isotherm
