Selection the best combination of polycross parents and progeny performance prediction and genetic analysis of different traits in Dactylis glomerata under normal and drought stress conditions Mozhgan Abtahi Mozhganabtahi@yahoo com January 12 2019 Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran1st Supervisor Mohammad Mahdi Majidi majidi@cc iut ac ir2nd Supervisor Aghafakhr Mirlohi mirlohi@cc iut ac ir Professor of Plant Genetic and Breeding Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding College ofAgriculture Isfahan University of Technology Professor of Plant Genetic and Breeding Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding College ofAgriculture Isfahan University of TechnologyAbstractOur knowledge about the efficiency of different methods of parental selection inheritance of traits related to drought tolerance physiologic and root traits andmolecular markers associated with traits is very rare in orchardgrass This research wasconducted in three separate studies In the first study for the development of syntheticvarieties to maximize heterosis especially in respect to drought tolerance fourpolycrossed groups each composed of six parental plants with contrasting levels ofdiversity high and low based on molecular markers ISSR and SRAP and phenotypictraits were constructed First generation progenies of the four polycrosssed groups wereevaluated in terms of morphologic agronomic and physiological traits during two yearsin the field and for germination and seedling growth properties in the laboratory undernormal and drought stress conditions In both water conditions considerable geneticvariation was observed among progenies indicating that the progeny performancedepends on the type and level of diversity among the parental genotypes Positive andsignificant associations were observed between parental molecular diversity andprogeny performances of all traits at both moisture conditions suggesting the existenceof heterotic effects for different traits High molecular genetic diversity led to asignificant yield advantage with averages of 34 for normal and 48 for droughtstress conditions compared with the polycross parents yield Also crosses betweengenetically distant parents produced late heading progenies with high germination
