83 Agricultural land mapping with the delimitation of water resources and consumption in the Lenjanat sub basin Ako Halajdar Akoo halajdar@Gmail com January 20 2019 Department of Natural Resources Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree MSc Language PersionDr Saiid Pourmanafi spourmanafi@cc iut ac irDr Alireza Reza Modarres soffianian@cc iut ac irAbstractAgriculture is one of the main foundations of Iran s development There is a lack of integrated management timely and accurate information in this aspect of development Limitation of water sources inside bordersand necessity to boost the production rate of agricultural products sharpens the importance of studying inthe matter For planning and managing agricultural land uses accurate information about agriculturalproducts and their water needs are of the utmost importance Simultaneous function of these two systemswill make an integrated managerial approach and decision making more efficient for distributing the water Due to semi arid nature of central Iran and the concentration of water demanding industries in this area agriculture steel industries urban land uses etc management of surface waters especially in agriculturaluses which has the most uptake of water seems critical and crucial In the sub basin of Lenjanat Zayanderood river is the main source of fresh water and due to climate change reduction in precipitation and mismanagement discharge of underground water resources distribution of it has become a challengefor natural resource management In this study Landsat 8 images in three dates 1 Khordad 2 Tir 19Mordad 1396 were used to identify tillage patterns and land use land cover in this subbasin and areasshared with other counties such as Lenjan Dehaghan Mobarake Felavajan Semirom Shareza Tiran Najafabad and Chadegan from Isfahan and Shahrekord and Borojen from Chaharmahalvabakhtiari andprimary information about distribution of different tillages was attained by using pixel based and Object based methods for the area Then Jahad s data was used to examine the accuracy of attained data andcompared to them for each county Water demand of each product in one agricultural growth year wasattained by wide literature review Using Jahad s data showing the presence of each tillage and its expanse an average water use in the basin was calculated Main cultivations in the basin included wheat rice othercultivations dry farming water man made rocks bad rangelands good rangelands gardens man madeforests and lands with spread vegetation cover and in the counties with shared border included autumncultivations spring composite gardens and man made forests Among agricultural land uses in the studyarea other cultivations and wheat dominated with 3827ha and 2313ha respectively In counties autumncultivation was most expanded and composite cultivation was least expanded Rice as a product with highwater demands had an expansion of more than 2780ha of the studied area which shows a lack of sufficientmanagerial approaches according to appropriate tillage patterns in this area Water demand of Lenjanat sub basin was calculated using weighted averaging and is reported 234 4 million m squared annually Results ofthis study provided comprehensive view of tillage patterns in the studied area and the amount of agriculturalwater use in the sub basin However more studies are needed to evaluate the effects of adjustment of tillagepatterns and sufficient water usage on the reduction of water use in this development Keywords Remote Sensing Landsat 8 Tillage Patterns Agricultural Water Usage Lenjanat Sub basin
