Designing a meso structure of porous material inspired by a multi crystalline boundary network Amir Reza Jokar Amirrezajokar781@gmail com Date of Submission 2019 06 12 Department of Mechanical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors Dr Mostafa Jamshidian and Dr Mohammad SilaniAbstractNowadays there have been had many efforts to catch up a structure that has the features ofweightless and strength in order to utilize it in aerospace technology medical field military andso forth The structures which have been created in other researchers are mostly contained cellularlattice structures and foam that each one of them has its own specific weaknesses In this study tried to proposed a new simulation of porous structure in 2D scale by inspiration of natures in orderto cover the weaknesses of other porous structures The steps to create the porous structures are firstly lattice structures were created by phase field method and then these lattice structures arecalled in abaqus software Afterward tried to eradicate the grains and kept the grain boundaries oflattice structures in order to construct a porous structure which is just created from grainboundaries After creation of porous structures they were simulationally tested by pressure andtensile in periodic Boundary condition and the features of their behavior and mechanical propertieswere represented According to survey it has showed that these structures have acceptable abilityto tolerate the pressure and tolerate vary strain in almost constant stress Finally the porousstructures are compared by a cellular lattice structure that all of them have almost the same porositypercentage In this comparison the results are shown that although the amounts of yield stress arealmost in the same range it has defined that the amount of module young for porous structures ofthis study are about two times of cellular lattice structure By represent this phenomenon it infersthat due to the weaknesses in the cellular which are repeated in whole of the cellular latticestructure it has lower stiffness in comparison of the porous structures of this study Keywords Phase field method Finite element method Porosity percentage Apparent stress andspecific stress Energy absorption
