98 Evaluation of polymer modified bitumen properties by polybit and crumb rubber to use as crack sealer Sepehr kazemi sepehr kazemi6@gmail com Date of submission Department of Civil Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 8311 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSayyed Mahdi Abtahi mabtahi@cc iut ac irMohammad Reza Eftekhar eft@cc iut ac irAhmad Goli a goli@trn uni ac irAbstract The sealing of the cracks in the pavement is a common maintenance method that can preventroad damage through the prevention of the influence of surface water on base and subbace Today expensive polymers such as SBS are used to modify bitumen and in this research efforts were made to obtain a better polymeric mixture with cheaper price Given that polybitpolymer is produced in Iran and its cost is much lower than that of other polymers it hasbeen selected as an additive to bitumen for this research The purpose of this study was toevaluate the laboratory and investigate the technical properties of bitumen modified withpolybit polymer and crumb rubber bitumen in terms of compliance with the standardspecifications of the sealer material It is also considered to be the goal of this research toobtain the optimum mixing rate with the highest possible efficiency For this purpose amixture of 3 5 7 and 10 polybit polymer with 5 10 15 and 20 of crumbrubber powder were used and tests of bitumen sealant have been done on these specimens In order to find a best mixture many experiments based on ASTMd6690 have beenconducted including 1 cone penetration test 2 Resilience 3 resilience oven aged 4 non imerssed bond 5 flow and 6 asphalt compatiablity Of the 17 bitumen samples with different mixing percentages the best results was forbitumen contained 20 rubber powder and 7 polybit polymer however the optimummixing option is a pure bitumen mixture with 5 polybit polymer and 20 of powderedrubber The suggested bitumen in this study decrease the price of mixture to almost 50 inoperating costs Keywords crack sealer polymer crumb ruber polybit
