Abstract The biology and seasonal population fluctuations of Bryobia rubrioculus Scheuten Acari Tetranychidae was studied on black cherry Prunus serafina Ehrh trees in Baraghan Karaj in 2003 2004 Weekly sampleswere collected from 5 trees in an infested orchard of black cherry in Baraghan Sixty damaged spurs were transferred to the laboratory for recording the number of different developmental stages of the mite every week B rubrioculus produced 3 generations per year in Baraghan Overwintering eggs appeared in early April and by late of April in 2003 and 2004 respectively on the bark of twigs and main wood of branches The female population peaked on the late June and July in 2003 and 2004 respectively Under laboratory conditions 22 1 loC 70 1 5 RH and a 16L 8D photoperiod using leaf disc method the mean time required for the developmentof larva protonymph and deutonymph was 1 27 1 0 95 1 0 1 0 14 and 0 97 1 0 89daysrespectively Using leaf disc method and black cherry as a host plant was used for the firsttime The mean time for embryonic development and completion of a generation from eggto egg was 13 98 1 0 44 35 22 1 1 21 and days respectively The pre oviposition ovipositionand post oviposition periods were calculated as 3 16 1 0 65 13 2 1 0 71and 0 8 1 0 27 daysrespectively Adults laid eggs on the surface of the leaf especially along the main andaccessoryveins of each leaf disc Adults laid both summer s and overwintering eggs thesetwo type of eggs were not different morphologically The collected predators for this mitewere indenttfied as Haplothrips inoptatus Priesner 1954 Phlaeothripidae Scolothripslatipennis Priesner 1930 Thripidae and Zetzellia mali Ewing 1960 Acari Tetranychidae Amongth the se predator H inoptatus w asmore frequent and active thanthe other predators in 2004 This speciesis recorded for the first time as a predator in thisstudy Larva of H inoptatus feeds on brown mite s egg and nymphes It is necessaryacomprehensive study to be conducted on the impact of thesepredators on this mite c i r pt i I V I it i I llilll i c
