Abstract Canola Brassica napus is one of the important oil seed plants cultivated in manyparts of Iran One of the main problems of seed production of Canola is pollination andfertilization of flowers Insects are the major pollinators and honey bees are the mostimportant one In order to study the effects of insect pollinators especially honey beeson seed yield and quality of cultivars S L M Okapi aI1dTalaye a split plot experimentin a complete randomized block design with four replications in Isfahan region wascarried out Main plots consisted of three Canola cultivars and subplots consisted of open pollination and non pollination in cages During the stages of inflorescence pollinator insects were captured and identified For all cultivars following the harvest pollination effects on seed yield and quality were studied Results showed that insectpollinators belong to five orders and 18 families The most abundant pollinators were from Hymenoptera but excluding Apis melli era the most abundant of insects capturedbelong to Diptera Honey bees were more abundant at noon and during afternoon onOkapi and were less in the morning hours because of cold weather and low nectarproduction in the morning Three Dipterous insects Bibio hortulanus Metasyrphuscorollae and Platypalpus sp were collected and jdentified Pollination showed thesignificant effect on the number of days to seed ripening number of pods per plant number of seeds per pod yield weight of 1000 seeds percent of moisture P O OI andgermination mean hours for seeds Duration of seed ripening in pollinated plots was10 5 days less than seedsof non pollinated plots Pollination increased number of podsper plant number of seeds per pod and weight of 1000 seeds 14 3 23 5 and 10 respectively Total yield increased 53 in pollinated plots Pollination decreased percent moisture of seed 3 15 but its effect on ojl percent and germination percentwere not significant Mean hours of seed germination jn pollinated plots decreasedthreehours Cultivars were different significantly in ojl percent Talaye produced the hjghestamount of oil percenrt 45 49 while Okapi produced the lowest 40 75 There wassignificant interaction between cultivars and polljnation in terms of seed ripening and moisture percent of seed cl f I J I if IJ V l JJ fJ
