Abstract In this study different methods are introduced for characterization of scanners andprinters In order to transfer the color data between different devices the proposedalgorithms for color gamut mapping are also reviewed Two techniques called look uptable LUT and regression method are applied in this work to characterize the scanner In order to evaluate the methods a series of colored samples are used for training andtesting The effect of the degree of regression method and the number of samples inLUT on the results are studied The advantages disadvantagesof each method areconsidered and discussed According to the results The LUT technique is selected forcharacterization of scanner The original Neugebauer as well as n modified Neugebauermodel are applied for characterization of a halftone printer According to results themodified Neugebauer method is led to better outcome A color gamut mappingalgorithm is applied for a system consisted of scannerand printer A SMGBD method isused for description of boundary and the CLGB technique is applied for color mapping The results show that the applied characterization method and the color gamut mappingtechnique have significant effect on the system outcome Finally a color managingsystem is applied for data conversion between scanner outputs and printer inputs Implementation of such system led to more accurate results in comparison with virgin tdata conversion A J I Lf V I J 10
