Abstract In this thesis an experimental and analytical study was carried out to investigateCFRP strengthened simple precast concrete beam column corbel connections behaviour subjected to statistical loading Studies has especial concentration on moment capacity andeffects of debonding of FRP laminates Three CFRP strengthened simple precast beam column exterior connections and one monolithic connection were tested The role ofvarious parameters on the effectiveness of FRP such as location and thickness wasexamined through 1 2 scaled testing of exterior precast beam column connections Thespecimens were tested with the column under a constant axial compressive load and withthe beam under an static load until ultimate capacity Results of the experiment on the Base monolithic connction illustrated that beamlongitudinal bar was yielded at the beam column junction experimental curve is similar totheoretical cantilever beam curve until yielding Although a typical failure mode in poorlydesigned joints lacking adequate transverse reinforcement was caused concrete shear inthe form of diagonal tension also bond failure of rebars had been observed too Thisillustrated the importance of exact construction on joints core Results of the experiment on the CFRP strengthened simple precast beam columnexterior connection illustrated the comparative revenue on moment resisting behaviour Inone of the specimens flexural strength of CFRP strengthenedprecast connection increasedup to 81 of monolithic connection Debonding dominates the behaviour of external reinforcement unless very low area fractions are employed or proper mechanicalanchoragesare provided Mechanical anchoragesincrease the effectiveness of laminates upto 530 One external mechanical anchorages employed in this study increased the ultimate strain of FRP laminates from 0 001 to 0 0053 34 of FRP ultimate strain Number and thickness of FRP layeres are effective on the ultimate strain of FRP laminates Thus anchorage length of FRP laminates are effective on the ultimate strain until maximum anchorage length In addition to perform numerical analysis three dimensional models were created and analyzed using the ANSYS8 1 finite element program Comprehensive comparison performed with several variables such as kind of connection precast and monolithic FRP location FRP area and thickness and mechanical anchorage to present suitable model for retrofitting simple precast beam column corbel connection with FRP strips Complete description of experiment and results are presented in thesis chapters t I I I J A W 1 1 1 r
