Abstract This study was conducted to investigate the genetic diversity of cultivars and F1hybrids of durum wheat using the agronomic and morphological traits as well as semi random molecular markers Fourty two durum wheat genotypes were evaluated using arandomized compelete block design replicated three times at Research Farm of Collegeof Agriculture Isfahan University of Technology located at Lavark Najaf Abad in2003 Twenty out of 42 genotypes were used to study genetic diversity using semi random markers Agronomic characteristics contain days to 50 flowering days to50 pollination days to maturity plant height spike length grain weight per spike number of grain per spike number of spike per m2 grain yield biological yield 1000 grain weight kernel weight and harvest index The results of analysis of varianceshowed significant differences among genotypes for all the traits studied Grain yieldhad the highest coefficient of variation CV 21 6 spikes per m2 CV 20 and grainsper spike CV 18 9 were ranked afterwards Lowest coefficient of variation wasobserved for days to maturity days to 50 pollination and days to 50 flowering Study of correlation analysis indicated that grain yield correlated with harvest index biological yield number of grains per spike and grain weight per spike Based onstepwise regression analysis harvest index and biological yield were the most efficienttraits in explaning the grain yield variation Principal components analysis wasperformed for all genotypes and 4 components demonstrated 70 peresent of the totalgrain yield variation Factor analysis revealed 4 factors namely growth period grainyield and their componets plant height and yield factors respectively Cluster analysisof genotypes based on agronomic traits defined desirable clusters having beneficialcharacteristics which are useful to the breeding objectives The results of geneticdiversity using semi random primers revealed that among 25 tested primers 15 primerswere polymorphic ranging from 14 to 81 polymorphism among studied genotypes Calculated similarity matrics showed the highest similarity between Altar84 Aldgenotype and HAltar84 Ald Mexi75 Vic hybrid and the lowest coefficient of similaritybetween Mexi75 Vic and Korifla genotypes Twenty durum wheat genotypes dividedinto 4 groups based on cluster analysis These groups included 20 35 10 and 35percentage of genotypes Furthermore genetic distance obtained from semi randomprimers found to be gainful in establishing heterotic groupes Ultimately cluster analysiswas done based on combination of data obtained from morphological traits and semi random markers and the genotypes divided into 4 clusters accordingly
