Abstract The local structure of turbulence at gas liquid interfaces is an important factor in the transport of mass momentum and energy between the gas and liquid phase in most two phase flows In this thesis turbulence structure on the gas side of a wavy stratified flow was experimentally investigated in a near horizontal 18 7 cm H x 10 cm W x 5 5 m L rectangular duct By applying hot wire anemometry instantaneous velocity of gas near wavy liquid surface was obtained then by applying the Variable Interval Time Averaging technique the frequency of coherent structure of air over water waves was calculated A new method for calculation of threshold level in VITA technique was presented The results showed that with increasing shear at the gas liquid interface frequency of coherent structures increase By applying a eddy cell model mass transfer coefficients were calculated on the gas side and it was concluded that with increasing shear at interface mass transfer coefficients increase Conditional averages of coherent structures at each experiment were plotted and ejection and sweep were explained u V l Lf V J1U1j
