ABSTRACT Ethylene glycol is one of the important and high applicable solvents in chemicalindustries The production process of this chemical in petrochemical industries isencounteredwith problems regardingseparationof a large amountof water from producedethylene glycol which leads to intensive energy consumption in several evaporatorsandvacuum distillation columns It is noticeable that this processis known as the 8thhighestenergyconsumingprocessin the world among separation processesusing distillation Pervaporation is a well known novel membrane method for dehydration of organicsolvents This method has proved its capabilities in separationof azeotropic mixtures as well as being environmentally friendly and low energyconsuming In this researchwork application of NaA zeolite membranein Pervaporationmethod for dehydration of ethylene glycol water mixture has been studied During this research effects of feed solution concentration temperatureand flow rate on the permeateflux and separationfactor was investigatedexperimentally Obtained results showed successful performance of this kind of membrane for dehydrationof ethylene glycol water mixture It was seenthat feed flow rate with 40 and temperature with 21 had maximum and minimum respectively contribution on the amount of permeate flux Although high polarity of ethylene glycol and separating mechanism of this membrane caused lower permeation flux and separation factor in comparisonwith dehydrationof other solvents suchas ethanoland methanolwith this type of membrane but this membraneshoweda better performancecomparedwith polymeric tV membranes d I t Ii1i J f II I I 1
