Abstract Bromination of organic substrates particularly aromatic compounds is one of themost important synthetic methods and has many applications in modem organic synthesis These methods are usually carried out using elemental bromine however organicammonium tribromides have many advantagesover with bromine especially from point ofview of hazards associated with Br2 in this project we wish to introduce the preparation ofnew ammonium and phosphonium tribromides such as I benzyl 4 aza l azoniabicyclo 2 2 2 octane tribromide BABOT benzyltriphenylphosphoniumtribromides BTPTB and methyltriphenylphosphonium tribromides MTPTB byoxidation of bromide ion in the presence of axone and their application in organictransformation BTPTB and BABOT are efficient reagent for protection of alcohols astetrahydpyranyl ethers under solvent free conditions and in also dichloromethane solutionin good to excellent yields Dethioacetalization of thioacetals was achieved by BTPTB in dichloromethane methanol solution in good to excellent yields and thioacetals of aldehyde and ketones was deprotected to parent compounds In the last part of this thesis we also try to synthesis cyclic derivatives of Salmeterole t ili i 1i 1
