Abstract The aim of this project was to determine the thallium by two methods FIA andspectrophotometric method based on the oxidation of 4 4 N N dimethylaminophenyl Urazole DAPU to the corresponding triazolinedione TAD by TI III at pH 4 0 A simple and selective spectrophotometric method is proposed for thedetermination of ultra trace amounts of Tl III The reaction was monitoredspectrophotometrically by measuring the increasing color of TAD compound at 514 nmby the fixed time method At a given time of 2 0 min at 30 C the working range ofcalibration was 5 0 x 10 8 2 0 x 10 5M TI III and detection limit of 5 0 x 10 8M wasobtained The influences of pH reagent concentration ionic strength and temperaturewere studied The effect of diverse ions on the determination of TI III by the proposedmethod was also investigated Thallium in real sampleswas determined by this method with satisfactory results A simple sensitive rapid and selective method is proposed for the flow injectiondeterminations of thallium by spectrophotometric detection The reagents and manifoldvariables influences on the sensitivity were investigated and the optimum conditions wereestablished Thallium can be determined from the range of 8 0 x 10 8 3 0 x 10 5 MTI III and detection limit of5 0 x 10 8M was obtained and with a sample rate of20 t 5samples h The relative standard deviations for five replicate determination of 5 0 x 10 6and 1 0 x 10 5M were 2 75 and 1 96 respectively The proposed method was used todetermination of thallium in real samples with satisfactoryresults I I JiJ l l v II iI
