Abstract Consider a survey of populations which its members abundance or presence is rare and cluster Adaptive sampling designs will be implemented to determine which units to sample within the study region Adaptive cluster sampling designs are sampling designs that are implemented by first selecting a sample of units according to some conventional probability sampling design Then whenever a specified criterion is satisfied upon measuring the variable of interest additional units are adaptively sam pled in neighborhoods of those units satisfying the criterion Becuase simple latin square sampling designs possesgood spatial coverage properties they will be studied as initial sampling designs within the framework of adaptive cluster sampling We therefore use combinatorial generating function of calculate network inclusion proba bility associated with a simple latin square sample We then compare adaptive simple latin square sampling with adaptive simple random sampling We introduce a new estimator of Ratio type Horvitz Thompson estiamtor Useing simulation study we show that the introduced estimator is more efficient that original Horvitz Thompson estimator if spatial correlation is present sampling designs which ensure the sample is well distributed over the study region will improve estimation of population abundance relative to designs that do not Simple latin square sampling l k designs will be presented These are a new class of probability sampling designs that were developed for this situation When goal is estimation of the population total or mean we show that these designs comparing to simple random stratified and systematic samplingwill provide estimators with smaller variance when spatial correlation is present We finally present systematic simple latin square sampling 1 design and its formu late l u I Ji l tl LJ I IJ i
