Abstract Application of plant compoundsfor agricultural pestcontrol speciallystored productpests were common from many years ago in various countries Various species ofplants in somerang landsof Iran are known to have anti insectproperties Evaluation ofthese plant extracts for their effects on the pests and determining their chemicalcompounds are needed for their applicatibn in pest control In order to evaluateinsecticidal potential of herbalextractsa factorial experiment completelyrandomized ofdesign with three replications on Callosobruchusmaculatuswas adopted for a pilotexperiment in the laboratory These plant extracts were prepared from 22 plants withthree solvents Methanol Acetone and N Hexane with 30 concentration Experiments were carried out in petri dishes at 25 C and 70 5 RH under darkconditions and mortality were recordedafter 24 and 36 hours In this experiment eachplant extract that had causedmore than 50 mortality on C maculateswas selectedforfurther laboratory screening Each unit of experiment in pilot test consisted of a petridish covered with a filter paperand 1 5ml of eachtreatmentsolution was poured in itand 25 insects were releasedinto them In this stage of experiment methanolic leafextract of Teucrium polium with 55 04 percentmortality hexane extract of Sonchusoleraceus with 54 64 percentmortality acetonic leaf extract of Calotropis procera with 53 6 percent mortality methanolic extract of Fumaria parvijlora with 52 7percent mortality methanolic extract of Capsicum annuum with 50 04 percentmortality acetonic extractof Thymus vulgaris with 50 percentmortality and acetonicextract of Origanum vulgare with 49 21 percentmortality were selected After carringout the pilot experiment the effective extractswith five concentrations 15 22 4 33 5 of50 2 and 75 and one control were evaluatedon the C maculates This experimentwasdesigned as a factorial experiment of completely randomized design with threereplications and mortality was recorded after 24 and 36 hours On the basis of thisexperiment in the highest concentration 75 extract of Fumaria parvijlora andextract of Thymusvulgaris with 88 3 mortality had higher mortality and extract ofSonchusoleraceus with 78 3 had lower percentage mortality The LCsovaluesof ofeffective extractswere calculatedfor C maculatesafter 36 hoursof treatmentwith plantextracts The results showed that C maculateswith LCso 126 27 l ml has highersensitivity against extract of Fumaria parvijlora and has lower sensitivity againstextract ofSonchus oleraceuswith LCso 370 09 l ml in comparisonto other extracts This insect showed moderate sensitivity to other extracts Amongst the testedconcentrationsof plant extracts 5 plant extracts with the concentrationsthat had thehigher mortality on C maculates were selected for test on Laphigma exigua ingreenhouse This experimentwas carried out with completely randomizeddesignwithfour replications Water and solventwere usedas control treatments The acetonic leafextract of Calotropis procera with 57 5 percent mortality had higher mortality andextract of Origanum vulgare with 20 percent mortality had lower mortality on L texigua in comparisonto other extracts L liJ VI J
