AbstractThe unique combination of mechanical physical and chemical properties of tungstencarbide cermets coatings yields to increasing wear resistance of industrial parts Considering increasing of applications in where corrosion can play in the degradationprocess it is becoming increasingly important to be able to assess effect of joint erosionand corrosion process In this research microstructure characterization and assessment ofcorrosion and erosion corrosion behavior of WC 12 Co atmospheric plasma spraycoatings on CK45 steel in 3 5 NaCl aqueous solution have been considered Microstructure characterization exhibited that coating relative to initial powder consists ofW2C carbide and amorphous structure other than WC Corrosion test results andchemical analysis of corrosion solution revealed that CK45 steel with WC 12 Co coatinghave higher corrosion resistance than bare CK45 steel and this coating protected thesubstrate effectively Also it was determined that their corrosion resistance decreasebecause of decreasing amorphous phase in coating additionally their corrosion resistanceincrease because of decreasing coating surface roughness Erosion corrosion test withimpingement jet solution without abrasive particles exhibited that weight loss CK45 steelis approximately two times weight loss of WC 12 Co coating In Erosion corrosion testwith impingement jet solution with abrasive particles thermal treated WC 12 Co coatingand CK45 steel have had respectively minimum and maximum weight loss and there isdirect relation between their erosion corrosion and hardness In second stage in thisresearch WC Co Cr cermet powder produce possibility considered by mechanical alloying Results showed that it is unsuitable to produce this powder alone because produced powderhas unfavored morphology Corrosion and erosion corrosion properties of WC 12 Co andWC 10 Co 4 Cr coatings are compared together It is determined that extradecarburization of WC particle in coating process of WC 10 C0 4 Cr cermets is causedthat this coating lost themselves suitable properties and spray parameters must beoptimized due to decrease this phenomenon Addition of chromium to these cermets iscaused to increase their corrosion resistance
