Abstract Sheikh Ali copper deposit located 300 km south of Kerman is one of the oldest mines inIran operating since ancient time and is considered as an important archeological site Basedon previous ore type genetic studies it is considered to be of Cyprus type massive sulfide oredeposit The main objectives of current investigations were defined to complete the previousexploratory activities by establishing the consistency and correlation between geophysical andgeochemical anomalies integrating all exploratory data validating the results of previousborehole data and mapping lateral and vertical extensions of mineralization The availableexploratory data sets include the apparent resistivity induced polarization magnetic andgravity geophysical data litho geochemical data and eight drill hole log data In order toachieve the objectives drawn earlier the three geophysical data sets were inverted optimally torecover three dimensional distribution of petrophysical properties of subsurface mineralizationincluding true resistivity chargeability susceptibility and density The correlation and consistency of the inverted models among geophysical data wereexamined through statistical analysis leading to the conclusion that all geophysical results areconsistent in delineating mineralization phenomenon In addition the geochemical sampleswere analyzed for major oxides minor and trace elements which through using statisticalmultivariate analysis showed enrichment of Cu Zn S MgO MnO and Fe2O3 and deflectionof Na2O and K2O at the main mine trench Also the strong correlation between geochemicaland geophysical data observed over the mineralized zone compared with the previously drilledboreholes indicates that the suggested boreholes were not precisely selected and consequentlyleading to the false conclusions and interpretations Finally based on geophysical invertedmodels and topographic relief of the studied area and in order to check the presence ofprobable subsurface mineralization drilling three boreholes has been suggested
