AbstractProcess monitoring and online control of each process in textile industry has receivedsignificant attention nowadays Yarn tension in ring spinning is an important and criticalfactor and there are a few methods for real time measurement In ring spinning system thespindle rotates at a constant angular velocity and the traveler is dragged around the ring bythe yarn balloon Understanding that how operating variables determine balloon dynamicstability and yarn tension cause by balloon is necessary to obtain machine efficientparameters For the last fifteen years the quite revolution of micro technology andnanotechnology has taken place and is promising a bright future for most industriesincluding textiles Sensors are a type of microelectromechanical system and in this study astrain sensor is used to investigate some machine operating variables quantitatively An experimental set up is devised to capture the signal through the interface by using dataacquisition operating system DAOS After calibrating the system various experimentsare carried out on the ring spinning frame to assess the effect of the traveler weight balloon height and displacement of pigtail on the compressive forces experienced by theyarn through rotation inside the balloon control ring The results of this study show that the developed technique is a powerful tool formonitoring the variation in the compressive forces that yarn experiences during the contactwith balloon control ring It has been shown that increasing the weight of the traveler couldresult in decreased compressive forces Also it has been shown that decrease in balloonheight will decrease compressive forces and an increase in pigtail displacement willincrease compressive forces in the direction of displacement and will decrease it in theopposite side Analysis of variance Bonferroni and linear regression methods were used toevaluate the results The results have been analyzed in the frequency area as well
