Abstract Northern iron anomaly located at 10 kms north west of Choghart iron mine is consideredas one of the largest known potential iron deposits in central Iran owing to its largereserves and proximity to main mining facilities in central mining district in Iran According to previous studies it is generally believed that this anomaly is divided into 3separated major sub deposits known as Western Central and Eastern parts mainly causedby extensive post mineralization structural settings In this thesis we mainly focus ourstudies on the central portion of the North Iron anomaly Following completion of different exploratory phases the primary and most importantsteps towards any mining development leading to any feasibility study of the deposit areconsidered to include geological ore reserve estimation amount of mineable ore and oredeposit modeling and simulation Geostatistical simulation is considered a powerful toolfor quantifying the estimation uncertainties and their associated risks emerged out oflimited samples therefore enabling more accurate economical evaluation of inheritedrisks associated with deposit and further mine production and planning decisions In order to evaluate the possible presence of any spatial trend distributed among data avisual method of demonstrating the variation of grades along different spatial coordinateswas used Having found no meaningful spatial trends a set of directional experimentalvariogram were computed which resulted in determination of a 3 D geometricalanisotropy to be used for further and more accurate geostatistical estimations The spatialestimation space was established through 3 D indicator Kriging yielding the probabilityof a block belonging to ore or waste part of the deposit A standard 3 D ordinary Krigingcarried out in two stages was used for estimating verage iron contents of ore blocks Based on Kriging results and grade tonnage relationship curve it is shown that thecentral iron deposit of the northern anomaly posses a reserve of 141 million tones withaverage iron content of 31 37 above a cut of grade of 20 Using conditional simulation of iron contents in ore blocks with 100 realizations thegrade variation for each block was used as an estimate of uncertainty and then thisestimate were inputted into GET function which is a simple multiplication of grade estimation uncertainty and thickness in order to locate the highly risked areas Finally the optimum location for complementary drillings with associated sectional andplanar maps were drawn accompanied by a few suggestions for reducing estimationerrors and further detailed explorations
