AbstractThe Tuned Liquid Damper TLD is increasingly being used as an economical andeffective passive vibration absorber It consists of a water tank having the fundamentalsloshing fluid frequency tuned to the natural frequency of the structure This paperfocuses on modeling of structures equipped with Tuned Liquid Damper TLD to reducethe multi modal responses of tall buildings and high rise structures to earthquake groundmotion excitations High levels of excitation cause the Wave Braking and turbulent inthe non linear waves in shallow rectangular tank Using damping screens placed insidethe tank because of increasing inherent damping these damaging factors are preventedand perform efficiency on reducing the structural response A simple method for modelingthis type of Tuned Liquid Damper is using Equivalent Amplitude Dependent Tuned MassDamper based on equalizing dissipated energy in these two devices Equations of motionfor the mechanical model of Multi Degree of Freedom structure and equivalent nonlinearAmplitude Dependent Tuned Mass Damper are established The equations solved usingnon classical modal analysis of Structure Equivalent TMD system Coupling of TMDproperties and structural response is solved with iteration in structural response andearning TMD propepties Three structures are analysed with four earthquake accelerationrecords Frist structure is a ten story bilduing with natural frequency of 0 5 Hz secondstructure a nine story bilduing with natural frequency of 0 8 Hz and third structure is aTV tower that its frist mode frequency is 0 34 Hz The structures equipped with manyTLDs with variouse properties of frequency mass and level of installation The results ofanalyses show if the Tuned Liquid Damper has been tuned to the natural frequency ofstructure considering the hardenning behaviour of TLD it significantly can reduce theseismic response of structure displacement and base shear
