AbstractIn the design of the external pressure vessels one of the important factors is the buckling load There are a great number of documents and standards for the design and analysis of thebuckling of these types of vessels However the formulas suggested are not efficient enoughbecause the subject matter is complicated and there are also a great number of effectivefactors This problem shows itself more when there are some differences between thedocuments One of the factors in this regard is imperfection which shows itself in theconstruction of every structure Another efficient and important factor is residual stresses which can be resulted from sheetsrolling or welding joints When the welding electrode moves the regions in which electrodepasses become cold sooner than the regions under welding and is affected with tensilestresses The welding joints are more firm than the other joints However the welding resultsin some problems which affect the overall strength of structure In addition to making residualstresses welding processes also make distortion in the structure Both of these factors reducethe resistance of the structure against buckling In this research first the buckling of aluminum cylinder is analyzed using ANSYS andABAQUS software Welding process is modeled as two dimensional for studying the effect of the welding processon buckling In the modeling of the welding processes first the welding model is analyzed as axis symmetric Then the results of distortion residual stresses and the states of matter arecompletely transferred from the two dimensional to three dimensional model using ABAQUSsoftware and three dimensional model is analyzed using the non linear static riks methodwhich also includes post buckling analysis Residual stresses resulted from welding have putrestricted effects on the critical load of interstiffening buckling mode shell buckling betweenstiffeners while the critical load of overall buckling of a cylinder is largely affected with theresidual stresses
