Abstract Pollinators especially honey bees are beneficial insects that might be harmed bypesticides Application of chemical repellent compounds could be one of the bestmethods for pollinator s protection from pesticide injuries To assess the effect of somechemical repellents to decrease insecticide injuries on pollinator insects fourexperimental stages were conducted in the Research station of the College ofAgriculture Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran In the first stage 10chemical repellent compounds including Acetophenone Methylethylketone Methylisobutylketone Cyclohexanone Acetylacetone Methylsalicylate Propionicanhydride Maleic anhydride 2 Ethylhexylamine and Dibutylamine were screened byfactorial design In the second and third stage the effects of 2 Ethylhexylamine Dibutylamine and Methylsalicylate which showed the highest effect of repellency withand without fixative compounds Benzylbenzoate Dibutylphthalate and Benzylalcohol were tested on canola and alfalfa fields in the spring and summer Sampling was donetwice a day 11am and 14pm to assess the effect of environmental temperature too Thedesign of this experiment was factorial split in the form of randomized block In thefourth stage corrected repellency index Kasana et al 1997 was used to find theeffective dose from chemical repellent compounds that showed more than 70 percent ofrepellency The results showed that 2 Ethylhexyl amine Dibutylamine andMethylsalicylate are the highest repellent therefore were selected for testing in farm 2 Ethylhexyl amine mixed with Benzylalcohol or without this fixative compound especially in 14pm showed the highest percent of repellency Although repellencypercentage of 2 Ethylhexylamine with a bit higher repellency was not significantlydifferent from the two other treatments In this stage the effect of fixative compoundswas not significant 2 Ethylhexyl amine and Dibutylamine showed highest repellencyeffect on canola s Hymenoptera at 14 pm There was no significant difference amongchemical repellent compounds on Diptera but adding Benzylalcohol for increasingrepellency effect of chemical compounds especially at 14 pm was more effective Inalfalfa farm when Dibutylamine was mixed with Benzylbenzoate and Dibutylphthalatehad highest repellency effect on total insects at 11 pm Methylsalicylate with differentfixative compounds had highest repellency effect on honey bees 2 ethylhexylaminewhen mixed with Dibutylphthalate had highest repellency effect on alfalfa sHymenoptera but in the same farm Dibutylamine mixed with Benzyl benzoate or 2 Ethylhexylamine mixed with Dibutylamine had highest repellency percentage onDiptera Depending on chemical repellent compound in use effective doses with higherthan 70 percentage repellency were different for chemical compounds in farmconditions Our results suggested that amine compounds have highest repellency effecton insects and Benzyl alcohol as a fixative is suitable for increasing their effect Therefore it is recommended to use these compounds for conservation of pollinatorsand probably other beneficial insects in farm
