Abstract Considering the current extent of universal communication development and increasingdemands for transmitting voice video data etc through mobile communication systems various standards have been defined for transmitting signals in order to use the bandwidthefficiently by simultaneous amplitude and phase modulation The need for linear operationin transmitting a high quality signal and the necessity for increasing efficiency to increasethe mobile battery life requires a compromise among different specifications of signalamplification and transmission systems Although the linear operation of the power amplifier results in a fine and nondistortedsignal but high efficiency and output power can t be achieved in this region In spite ofhigher efficiency and higher output power which is achieved by using the amplifier in thesaturation region the signal would be hard limited and distorted therefore severallinearization methods have been presented each having its own advantages anddisadvantages The polar modulation theory which is based upon separating the amplitude and phaseinformation of the signal represents a new method for transmitting signals in moderntechnologies of mobile communication that in addition to providing improved efficiencyand high output power prevents signal distortion and amplitude information loss Meetingthe spectral requirements and achieving high efficiency and output power according to thedefined signal standards is necessary for practical implementation of this method In this thesis the power amplifier used with polar modulation method in a transmissionsystem is analyzed and simulated under two different conditions namely with and withoutemploying the polar modulation technique The simulation results of two power amplifierclasses are compared and the effect of varying circuit parameters such as altering thesynchronization between the amplitude modulation and phase modulation paths isanalyzed
