113 Abstract In this investigation the effect of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding GTAW and sequenceof T6 heat treatment on Weld metal of A356 was studied Also the microstructure andmechanical properties of weld zone was modified For this purpose first the A356 castalloys were prepared and then a GTAW machine with an manual wire feeding was used Filler metal included ER4043 with a diameter of 4mm structural and mechanicalproperties of weld metal area BM HAZ PMZ FZ was evaluated with X ray Diffraction XRD Scanning Electron Microscopy SEM Optical microscopy tensile test andhardness test As the result because of heat input during welding the dendrite arm spacingin the HAZ was increased so the hardness of HAZ decreases After T6 heat treatment thefine eutectic becomes fine globular silicon particles which is uniformly distributed in thematrix Also the hardness of HAZ decreases in specimens which first T6 heat treated dueto overaging of precipitations Although the mechanical properties in FZ area of specimenthat heat treated after welding because of formation of precipitations was modified thefracture has occurred in FZ Inoculation was used for improvement the structural microscopy and mechanicalproperties of weld zone To consider the effect of inoculation on micro structural of fusionzone the Al 5Ti 1B master alloy was used Then the mechanism of grain refinement wasstudied The result show that after addition of inoculation the dendrite arm spacingdecreased So the mechanical properties modified
