Abstract Water stress could have interaction with damage of arthropods in agriculturalecosystems This study was conducted to determine the effect of irrigation treatmentson pests population changes grain yield and yield components of three wheatcultivars Furthermore the relationships between irrigation cultivars and nymphs density of Sunn pest on percentage of damaged grains were studied The experimentwas conducted in 2005 and 2006 in Research Farm of Isfahan University ofTechnology The experiment was carried out in two sprayed and non sprayed fieldsusing a randomized complete block design with split plots and four replications Fourirrigation treatments irrigation after 70 85 100 and 115 mm cumulative evaporationfrom Class A pan in 2005 and irrigation after 70 90 110 and 130 mm in 2006 wereconsidered as the main factor and three wheat cultivars Roshan Mahdavi and Back cross Roshan as the minor factor The results showed that effect of irrigationtreatments on all collected pests population was significant Population of Sitobionavenae was increased from early May onward on three cultivars in 100 mm irrigationtreatment The population of this pest increased on Roshan and Back cross Roshancultivars in 70 and 130 mm irrigation treatments at the same time The population ofleafhopper Psammotetix aliennus increased in 110 mm irrigation treatment from mid Mayfor two weeks on all three wheat cultivars The thrips population Haplothrips tritici k increased in 70 mm irrigation treatment on Mahdavi and Roshan cultivars during thewhole period of plant growth The nymph of Sunn pest population Eurygaster integricepsincreased in 85 mm irrigation treatment on Mahdavi cultivar Also 110 mm irrigationtreatment increased population of this pest on Back cross Roshan cultivar in the lasttwo weeks of May The effect of spray on height of plant number of spikes and grainyield was significant p 0 1 Therefore spray of insecticide increased the average ofthese characters The effect of water stress on height of plant number of spike m2 number of seed spike 1000 grain weight and grain yield was significant The plantheight decreased in 115 and 130 mm irrigation treatments The highest average ofspike m2 was in 70 mm and the lowest in 130 mm irrigation treatments The highestaverage of seed spike was in 70 mm and the lowest was in 130 mm irrigationtreatments The highest average of 1000 grain weight was in 85 100 and 130 mmirrigation treatments The maximum grain yield was in 70 mm irrigation treatment andwas not statistically significant in other irrigation treatments All those characters in thethree wheat cultivars and interaction of main and minor factors were significantlydifferent The effect of water stress on percentage of damaged grains by Sunn pest andgrain yield was significant but was not significant on 1000 grain weight The highestaverage of damage percentage was in 110 mm and the lowest in 130 mm irrigationtreatments The highest and the lowest grain yields were observed in 70 and 130 mmirrigation treatments respectively The comparison of Sunn pest densities showed thatthe highest and the lowest grain yield were in zero and 16 nymph density of Sunn pest respectively The wheat cultivars were significantly different at percentage of damagedgrains in irrigation levels and Sunn pest density levels
