AbstractThe interactions of flow over two cylinders passing by each other have been investigatedat the first part of this thesis using overset grids method In this part two cylinders passingeach other at three different cases are investigated numerically when Reynolds number is40 At first each cylinder passes through the minor grid of the other one In second case anoptimization method have been used to modify overset grids method In third case fromthe beginning of the motion all of the minor grid cells are omitted from the computationaldomain where second cylinder grid passes through them It is shown that better results andshorter computational CPU time have been obtained using third case In addition theinteractions of two rectangular cylinders passing by each other have been investigated atRe 2 Different interpolation methods are used and the results are compared Finally at theend of this part force coefficient for two rectangular cylinders passing by each other havebeen investigated considering the effect of Reynolds number cylinder size and distancebetween two cylinders At second part of this thesis flow field around a three dimensional square cylinder areinvestigated in different Reynolds numbers using overset grids method Flow modes andtransition Reynolds number from two to three dimensional flow have been investigated Inaddition force coefficients and strouhal number for square cylinder have been obtained using 2D and 3D modeling Three dimensional modeling shows better agreement withexperimental data from the literature Finally flow field around two square 3D cylinders inthe staggered arrangement are investigated when Re 250
