    Abstract In this project a series of novel thermally stable polyamides PA s based on chiralamino acids moieties such as S valine and L phenylalanine were synthesized and somephysical properties of them were investigated For this purpose at first 5 3 methyl 2 1 8 naphthalimidyl butanoylamino isophthalic acid and 5 3 phenyl 2 tetrabromophthalimidylpropanoylamino isophthalic acid were prepared in three steps These monomers have chiral amino acids moieties and readily can be converted tobioactive polymers Also polymers based on brominated monomer 105 have flameretaredncy property These polymers were synthesized via two different methods conventional heating as well as microwave irradiation in ionic liquid IL and traditionalsolvent NMP TPP CaCl2 Py was used as a condensing agent for direct polycondensationof monomer 105 by reflux conditions whereas in IL as a media used only triphenylphosphite The use of IL as solvent and catalyst for polyamidation reaction eliminate theneed of volatile and toxic solvents These compounds were characterized by FT IR 13C NMR 1H NMR UV Vis fluorescence spectroscopy specific rotation elemental analysisand thermal gravimetric analysis derivative thermal analysis and differential scanningcalorimetry These polymers have flexible amino acids and bulky pendent groups andconsequently reduce packing efficiency of polymer chains therefore have very highsolubility Also thin transparent films of these polymers can be prepared
