AbstractIonic liquids are room temperature liquid compounds Because of their significant properties suchas catalyst stability recycle ability low vapor pressure and so on they have been frequently usedas catalyst and solvents in organic chemistry Melting point of these compounds are below 100 oC Protic ionic liquids a class of ionic liquids can be synthesize easily by combination of bronstedacids Protic ionic liquids have proton for hydrogen bonding Acidic ionic liquids a class of proticionic liquids can be use them inside of mineral acids Today the ionic liquids can synthesize withroom temperature melting point and this is a good reason for expansion of ionic liquidsapplications Here we like to report the synthesized H NMP HSO4 as a novel acidic ionic liquidand studied the applications of this ionic liquid for transformation of some organic functionalgroups By using this ionic liquid we have develop method for functional groups transformationsuch as acetalization of aliphatic and aromatic alcohols In this project we used a mild and simplemethod for acetalization of alcohols in presence of acetic acid and catalytic amount of the ionicliquid Also we tried the protection of carbonyl groups to thioacetals in the presence of a catalyticamount of acidic ionic liquid under solvent free condition at room temperature This method waschemoselective for protection of aldehydes and aliphatic ketones Also we tried the applicationthis ionic liquid for azidation of alcohols compounds have avariety of application such as antiHIV and TB drugs and using of them in click chemistry for synthesize of tetrazols and three azolscycles and so synthesize of amines and their application in organic chemistry Benzylic alcoholsin the presence of this ionic liquid were transformed to the corresponding azide We used thisionic liquid as catalyst and solvent This project has some benefits such using an ionic liquid for replacing volatile organic solvent inexpensive and accessible reagent mild and simple method short reaction times and high yields Key word ionic liquid acetalization of alcohols protection of carbonyl compounds azidificationof alcohols
