Feasibility Establishment of industries Case study of 50 kilometers radius around Isfahan city Marzieh Reisi marziehrei@na iut ac ir Date of sumssion 27 2 2009 Natural resources department Isfahan University of technology Isfahan 8415 8311 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Dr Alireza Soffianian Email adress Soffianian@cc iut ac irAbstractThe location of industrial area is a key factor in regional planning because this kind of decision has largesocial economic and environmental impacts on any land Location decision making must consider a widerange of factors in order to coordinate socio economic benefits and environmental sustainability Siteselection decision is a key decision for manufacturers Sustainable development need to find a way forindustrial establishment in order to minimize negative effects of industries Actually industrial site selectionis an important decision which effects sustainability of industrial activities and sustainable development Siteselection is a complicated decision and depends on lots of criteria so site selection is a Multi CriteriaDecision Analysis MCDA Multi criteria decision Analysis is so useful for prioritizing different criteria andselecting the best option from possible options In other word considering complex problem is possible inMulti criteria decision analysis by problem decomposition in to small elements After considering smallelements these elements are gathered and show decision makers preferences GIS can change selectionfactors and by using GIS we can analysis constraints effects on numbers of suitable points Isfahan is one ofthe most important industrial centers in Iran Because of industrial development in this city industrialestablishment is limited to out of 50 kilometer radius around Isfahan The present work describes two multi criteria evaluation MCE methods called Boolean logic and Weighted Linear Combination in GISenvironment to evaluate the suitability of 50 Km radius around Isfahan for industrial establishment At firstby literature review and obtaining standards industrial site selection criteria are defined These criteria aredistance to water bodies slope distance to urban distance to roads and railways protected area distance toindustries groundwater depth distance to water supplies distance to faults and current land uses Then allcriteria were imported in GIS with same format and were standardized The relative importance weights ofcriteria estimated using Analytical Hierarchy Process AHP rating and ranking methods Finally all criterialayers are aggregated by Boolean logic and Weighted Linear Combination After the elimination of siteswhich do not have enough area for industries 4 suitable patches remain in study area Presence of 4 suitablesites for industrial construction in 50 Km radius around Isfahan shows that the regulation of industrialconstruction limitation in this area should reevaluate Key words Multi Criteria Decision Analysis Geographic Information System Analytical HierarchyProcess Site selection Industries
