Evaluation of Effect of Turbulence Modeling on Predictions of Reacting Flows in Industrial Burners Mojtaba Shahmohammadian greatmissing@yahoo com April 22 2009 Department of Mechanical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiM D Emami Assist Prof mohsen@cc iut ac irAbstractThe purpose of this study is to compare the in influence of turbulence modeling on the prediction of turbulentreacting flows The models considered in this study are the standard k H and Algebraic Reynolds StressModels ARSM A comprehensive survey has been performed about the aforementioned models The SSGARSM has been adopted and implemented into the FV based open source computer code OpenFOAM ThePaSR concept is used for modeling of combustion turbulence interaction The well known backward facingstep case was considered for turbulence model implementation validation where the results for an isothermalflow are compared to other s work and also to the experimental data The performance of the aforementionedmodel for reactive flow is assessed for the case of a non premixed bluff body flame Finally the ARSM hasbeen used to predict the isothermal flow in a real furnace of a boiler and an industrial burner with a complexburner geometry The k H result and ARSM result were compared It is concluded that the ARSM predictsthe normal stresses and velocities better than the k H model Key WordsARSM turbulence anisotropy swirl streamline curvature combustion
